Trans-Jordan Landfill believes that understanding the environment and the role that landfills play in the environment, begins with education.  In that regard we provide free tours and presentations.

Tours can be provided to groups from one and up to one hundred at the landfill. Presentations are also available at your location.

Tours and presentation are given to individuals, civic groups (i.e. girl and boy scouts), businesses, schools, clubs,  etc.

Did you know?

  • Residents in Utah produce 5.2 pounds of trash every day that is 113% of the US national average of 4.6 pounds.
  • Nationally we recover, recycle or compost 32.5% of the trash.
  • Salt Lake Valley residents recycle less than 15% of our trash.
  • If we recycled only the “basics”: 1 & 2 plastics, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, clean paper, and cardboard we would be recycling over 60% of our trash.

TOUR AND PRESENTATIONS

If you would like to learn more about trash, recycling and the environment schedule a tour or presentation. Please plan your tour or presentation at least a month in advance to assure your preferred date is available.

April is a very busy month tours and presentations in this month are often booked 6 months in advance.

Schools wishing to come to the landfill for a tour may want to use their bus time fully by including a tour of the Kennecott Copper Mine into their schedule.  The visitor center and overlook are open to the public from April 1 to October 31.  The copper mine is only eight minutes from the landfill. Their website is www.kennecott.com
